Corey and I got home last night to a phone call from our friend Elyse about the news out of Haiti. People are starving and there were protests across the country this past week. Especially concerning to us were the protests that became violent in Les Cayes. Haiti is maddening in so many ways. We want to be there to witness the realities of life for Haitians and hopefully help, but we also have a responisbility and desire to protect our children.
Anna and I spent the morning at the grocery store filling our cupboards with healthy foods, and fun foods. I made dinner for my family tonight and we ate until we were full with leftovers for tomorrow. I can’t imagine the desperation that I would feel if I couldn’t feed my family, if there was no work, inadequate health care. My heart goes out to the people of Haiti tonight who are hungry and desperate while food rots in the port cities. As we step into this year, my friend Elyse’s advice is that when you are dealing with Haiti it requires lots of flexibility.
Please pray for the people of Haiti.
